 Data Scientist Risk Stratification

Job Overview:
By working in our team of data scientists and engineers, you will have an opportunity to make a positive impact on many of Client Permanente’s 12.5 million members. We work closely with doctors, researchers, operational leaders, other data scientists and engineers, etc., advancing care, quality, and affordability. Our current workstreams include emergency department, pharmacy operations, proactive care management, social health, and information support for outside referrals etc. To solve these problems we employ predictive modeling, natural language processing, cohort development through clustering, geolocation analytics, and integration of disparate sources. You will have the opportunity to work with large datasets and complex problems, discovering and delivering on untapped potential in our data.
An ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, solid programming and problem-solving skills, and a solid grasp of statistics and machine learning.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Understand business problems through collaboration with end users and stakeholders and suggest data and analytic solutions to support decision makers
  • Help develop and transform data assets, models, and applications
  • Develop and test analytic hypotheses using established methods
  • Evaluate and benchmark machine learning models
  • Create data visualizations that convey a clear story about what is observed in the data
  • Communicate results to variety of audiences

Required Qualifications

  • Software engineering experience with expertise in at least one high-level programming language (preferably Python)
  • Sound understanding of areas of computer science such as algorithms, data structures, and databases
  • Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms (including deep learning and NLP) and basic statistics (e.g., estimation and hypothesis testing)
  • Knowledge of distributed computing and ability to work with large datasets
  • Experience with exploratory data analysis and Client model evaluation
  • Experience with writing SQL to query databases
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of distributed computing frameworks
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud services
  • Experience with Devops tools and processes
  • Familiarity with healthcare data
